Having a pet is wonderful. Taking proper care of a pet can be challenging and the complete scope of responsibilities this requires is nothing short of …well, complete. We see our responsibility to help you with all aspects of caring for a pet. Chances are, no matter what you may be unsure about or what you need help with, we have the answer or solution.
We can help you choose a pet and often times our own personal experiences as pet owners can give you an immediate connection to understand what is involved. It is nice to know what you are getting into. We would all like to have the perfect pet, we help you get as close as possible. Our doctors spend their entire lives learning to fine tune the proper care of individual species or breeds. They see what the common problems are in each; they know what can happen and how these problems can be addressed. It is our job to know what breeds of dogs are more likely to have orthopedic problems or chronic respiratory disease; what cats are more likely to have heart disease; what species of birds are prone to fatty liver disease; why it is important to feed a rabbit lots of hay etc. etc. etc.
What is a good pet for kids? What about if my child has allergies? What about for a nursing home? How much time do I have to devote to caring for a Cockatoo? We can help before you even get a pet.
Wellness and preventative care, pre and post purchase examinations, health certificates, nutritional counseling, behavior counseling, and proper husbandry recommendations are services we provide all day, every day.
It is only natural that the place you trust for providing your pet’s health care is also a great choice to leave your pet anytime you need to be away or cannot properly care for them. Leave your pet in the hands of the people our doctors trust for theirs. Take advantage of our excellent boarding services. Whether it be a day or a month, your pet is safe with us. We can be your pet’s home away from home – we want to hear you say “Oh, he (she) loves coming here!” Our staff will become lifelong best friends with your pet.
If your pet needs a bath, a nail trim, a haircut, or just a day at the spa, we can do that. We are partnered with a professional groomer who really understands what it takes to earn your business.
We are not a pet store or feed store but we know what toys and treats and foods are good and what ones are bad for your pet. We sell only the best pet foods. In many cases, our doctors can prescribe a food for the management of a specific condition. Over many years we have come to learn that the right food is often the best way to halt the progression of a disease process. How great is that? Something as simple as a diet change can mean the difference between a good quality life and an all too early death.
We carry Hills, Iams, Purina, Royal Canine, Harrisons, and Oxbow pet foods. The gold standards for each species.
Believe it or not, one of the most common reasons for a relationship with a pet to come to an end is a behavior problem. Biting, barking, howling, screeching, peeing, running away, and eating the house can end an otherwise wonderful relationship. Aggressive behaviors, fearful behaviors, or just a complete lack of social skill are seen every day in every species we see. It is a cry for help and that is just what we offer. We are behaviorists, psychologists, neurophysiologists, and when appropriate psychiatrists. Health care is about more than physical health, it is about going the distance to make the experience of having a pet as rewarding as possible. We are partnered with the best trainers in your area and we can help.
In the event something happens at two o’clock in the morning, rest assured that we provide for 24 hour access to emergency care.
Pet Insurance – When we have a pet that is sick, we want them to receive the best care possible. We want our pet to have access to the same kind of care we have. Unfortunately it is sometimes necessary to compromise our pet’s medical care because of the expense involved. The doctors and staff at Research Pet and Bird Hospital understand the difficulties a pet owner faces when they have to choose a less than ideal level of care due to budget constraints. We want what is best for the pet, but the expense is definitely a factor in what we are able to do for them in some cases. We are happy to announce that this does not always have to be the case.
Boarding – Many owners say that they will never leave their dog in boarding kennels. However, situations may occur in which you are unable to take your dog with you. During these times, you have the following options:
The dog stays at home and you arrange for a friend or relative to “dog sit” in your home while you are away.
You arrange for a friend or neighbor to care for your pet in their home. This works well when the dog knows the home and the people. However, there is always a risk that your dog may escape and get lost in an unfamiliar neighborhood.
You arrange for your dog to go to a boarding kennel. This is probably the safest option since well-designed kennels are safe and secure. Many boarding facilities are associated with veterinary hospitals and are staffed with trained professionals to care for your pet.
