Bacteria are the causative agent in the development of dental disease (infection). Bacteria cause gingivitis that can rapidly progress to periodontitis that may result in destruction of periodontal tissues and the formation of deep pockets between the tooth and gum and some of these resemble an abscess. Deep periodontal pockets do not necessarily indicate the demise for that tooth, even if there is some tooth loosening. In many cases, we can implant Doxirobe Gel that will control infection and promote the rebuilding of periodontal tissues. These implants begin as a gel like substance injected into the periodontal space after thorough cleaning. This material rapidly hardens and sticks to the tooth and surrounding gum. The doxycycline (an antibiotic) is continuously released into the area to control infection. The implant remains in place for many weeks delaying the formation of scar tissue giving bone and other periodontal tissues a chance to regenerate.
The fundamentals of the proper management of periodontitis are to place a physical barrier between the root surface and the gum and eliminate infection. The barrier prevents food debris and bacteria from entering the periodontal pocket and prevents scar tissue and epithelium from forming too quickly. This barrier then provides an area for the progenitor cells of the periodontal ligament and/or alveolar bone to have free access for migration. The soft tissues of the periodontal ligament should develop prior to bone. Such a barrier should be in place and intact for 28 to 42 days for best results. Doxirobe Gel is an ideal such barrier. In addition the antibiotic present in the gel eliminates infection in the surrounding tissues.

DOXIROBE Gel is indicated for the treatment and control of periodontal disease in dogs. Periodontal pocket probing depths ~ 4 mm are evidence of disease that may be responsive to treatment with DOXIROBE Gel. In clinical trials, use of the product resulted in attachment level gains, periodontal pocket depth reductions and improved gingival health.
It is important to suspend brushing treated teeth for approximately 2 weeks following treatment.
Doxirobe Gel is one tool in the fight against periodontitis that has proven to permit the regeneration of periodontal tissues. More severe cases require frequent cleaning and re-evaluation and replacement of the gel to get best results.
